French's Bar

One of Hastings’ best-loved bars, French’s traces back to the 1970s, when the original French’s Inn was a legendary hangout for the town’s musicians and artists. Today’s French’s keeps the name as a tribute to that era, but it’s fresh management running a modern late-night cocktail and DJ venue.

It’s one of the town’s favourite little dance venues – with a ground-floor bar and an upstairs chill-out lounge, pulling in a regular crowd of locals and creatives.

There’s something on most nights. Thursdays bring live storytelling and spoken word, with regular appearances from The Yarn (run alongside the Hastings Writers Club). Fridays and Saturdays go late and loud, with resident and guest DJs spinning house and techno until 2.30am. And Sundays wind things right down with an open mic jam, with local musicians taking to the stage for acoustic sets.

It’s also a regular event hub, hosting everything from the Hastings Comedy Festival to local electronic music events.
