QUEER HISTORY PROMENADE

To mark the closing of the Lemons, Laws & Secret Doors exhibition, the Hastings Queer History Collective is throwing a party at the Hastings Sea Angling Clubhouse.

Artist and performer Travis Alabanza hosts, taking the night through the queer decades. Travel to the 1950s with dancer Azara Meghie in Baldwin’s Room, a collaboration with award-winning queer dance duo Thick & Tight.

Then head to the 1910s with Ida Barr – the world’s first music hall singer turned R&B rap superstar. And DJ Ben BJ will be spinning queer tunes from across the decades all night long.

Find a new friend or lover 1990s-style at the Shag Tags booth, or step into the Seaweed Forager Corner and discover queer foraging life in the 1800s. Revolting Rosy and Door Dom Dee will be welcoming you on the doors.

The dress-up theme is Queers Through the Years. So, go as a queer icon from history who inspires you, or create your own iconic look from the past – lovers, rebels, poets, performers, activists, artists and troublemakers all welcome. Sign up on the night to join the Queers Through the Years promenade show, an audience-participation procession where you get to show off your look and the story behind it.

It starts at 7 pm and is open to the LGBTQIA+ community and allies. Tickets cost £12 – £20, with £5 community tickets available for anyone on a low income. Travel bursaries are also available for people facing access or safety barriers.

Accessibility: The venue is step-free and wheelchair accessible, with BSL interpretation, a relaxed performance, accessible toilets and a complimentary ticket for anyone bringing an assistant.
