The swell of the English Channel and the immensity of the world’s oceans come to the heart of Hastings Contemporary this summer, as the gallery presents the first major solo exhibition in a UK gallery by leading German-Brazilian artist, Janaina Tschäpe.
Filling the largest gallery space, the show features a dramatic new series of paintings and works on paper, created in response to Tschäpe’s experience of visiting a wet and stormy Hastings in the winter of 2025, alongside a complementary film piece.
Tschäpe’s work has been shown in solo exhibitions at major museums worldwide, including the Den Frie Centre of Contemporary Art (Denmark), the Kasama Nichido Museum of Art (Japan), the Irish Museum of Modern Art (Ireland) and the Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis (United States).
