A24’s tunnel-dark comedy about the pressures of modern motherhood comes to the big screen, anchored by a monumental performance from Rose Byrne.
Byrne plays a woman on the verge of a breakdown, trying to hold her life and career together while juggling her daughter’s illness, an absent husband, a missing person, and a distinctly unusual relationship with her therapist – played, in a bit of inspired casting, by Conan O’Brien.
It’s directed by Mary Bronstein, who The Guardian’s Peter Bradshaw praised for capturing a mounting panic and an all-consuming sadness.
