The Waves hosts an evening with writer Howard Cunnell, in conversation with fellow writer Diarmuid Hester. Both are known for digging into place and art, and the histories that often go untold.
Cunnell’s new memoir, Sun Country, is his first since the acclaimed Fathers and Sons. It sees him return to the Sussex coast of his boyhood after the death of his mother – a love letter to the changing shoreline, and a moving reflection on the things we inherit from the people who raise us. At its heart is Gillian, his devoted single mother.
Expect a thoughtful, honest conversation about memory and home, and the strange act of turning a life into art.
