HASTINGS EMBROIDERY EXHIBITION

The Hastings Embroidery is on display at Hastings Town Hall, telling the story of England from 1066 through nine centuries of history in stitch.

Created for the 900th anniversary of the Battle of Hastings, the work continues the story beyond the Bayeux Tapestry, with richly detailed panels charting the people and events that shaped the centuries that followed.

It's free to view over multiple dates until November but registration is required.

Edge: Where the Land Meets the Sea

A major thematic exhibition exploring how our soils and seas are interconnected as part of a sophisticated web of life.

Edge is the first of two landmark exhibitions commissioned by Hastings Contemporary that respond directly to the gallery's location on a shingle beach, exploring themes including ocean futures and sustainability. The follow-up exhibition, Horizon, will take place in autumn 2027.

Curated by The Land Gardeners, Edge spans the gallery with work from the early 20th century to the present day, by artists including Anya Gallaccio, Wolfgang Tillmans, Merce Cunningham, Barbara Hepworth, Leopold and Rudolf Blaschka, Jem Southam, Martin Parr, Susie Hamilton and Massimo Bartolini.

Framed by the point at which land and sea meet, the exhibition considers everything from biodiversity and the natural environment to our relationships with the coast - taking in leisure, coastal poverty and migration along the way.

Tapestry of Black Britons

Catch Tapestry of Black Britons at Hastings Museum & Art Gallery this autumn. Its five large-scale woven artworks tell the story of almost 2,000 years of African and Caribbean presence in Britain.

Created by Jamaican-Haitian-British artist Paula Ogun Hector, the exhibition shows how Black history not a seperate narrative - it is deeply woven into British heritage.

Local embroiderers and Hastings Academy students have also created the ‘Hastings Bayeux’ especially for the exhibition. Their piece offers a modern and local reimagining of the famous 1066 story.

The exhibition runs from 10th October to 8th November 2026. Entry and parking are free.

If “i'm not very yoga-y” sounds familiar, this class at the Humble Hub is for you. The class is for absolute beginners who feel stiff or a bit nervous about starting yoga.

Rach and Jo teach Wonky Warrior Yoga together, so there are two teachers in the room to talk you through the poses and offer one-to-one help when you need it.

The movement is slow and accessible, with props used to make things more comfortable.

You don’t need to arrive flexible or strong and it also suits anyone coming back after a bit of a break. If you are working around injury or menopause, the class is designed to support that too.

The class runs from 2 pm - 3 pm and is £10.

A play about Hastings history and lore, followed by pizza and a Hidden Beach after party? Ooof - count us right in.

Spun Glass Theatre and Hastings Museum & Art Gallery have teamed up for Pizza & Plays, a new series bringing Hastings history to the stage at Stade Hall. Three writers have been given free rein to dig into the town’s folklore, then turn whatever grabs them into a brand-new short play. Each one gets just five days of rehearsal before it’s performed live.

This second time, local writer and storyteller Anna Atkinson takes the lead. Having lived in Hastings for 15 years, Anna is working with the museum to dig into the town’s folklore and explore how those old stories still echo through life in Hastings now.

Doors open at 6 pm, with the play starting at 7:30 pm. Pizza is served afterwards, kindly provided by Sustenance with Duke Harper Pizza, before Remi Vibesman of Hidden Beach hosts the post-show party from 8:30 pm.

Tickets are pay what you can at £5, £10 or £15, and include the play plus entry to the party. Pizza is available to buy separately.

Photographer David J Shaw and Shannon Ghannam come together at PICNIC in St Leonards to discuss who gets to document where we live, and what happens when local people tell those stories themselves.

Drawing on their work together, they explore how photography and independent publishing can help communities create their own record of life in a place.

Board Games Night

Every Monday from 6:30 pm, the Hastings and St Leonard's Board Games Night takes over the White Rock Hotel on the seafront, with players setting up in the Conference Room or just to the left of reception.

There is a big library of modern games to choose from, covering everything from quick-fire fillers to proper heavy strategy. You are welcome to bring your own games too, and teaching them to the table is very much encouraged. It runs until 11 pm and is free to attend (though buying a drink at the hotel's café-bar is appreciated).

If you are new to the group or to board games in general, just turn up and someone will find you a table - it is a genuinely welcoming crowd.

One thing worth knowing is that on some weeks the club runs from the Board Game Museum & Café on Courthouse Street instead, so it is worth checking their Facebook group before heading out here.

TAI CHI WALKING

Tai Chi began centuries ago as a martial art of self-defence and combat, but these days it's mostly about what it does for the body and mind - harmonising both through movement.

The walking practice focuses on the slow, mindful shifting of weight, which improves proprioception (that's body awareness) and builds real stability. It is genuinely useful for relieving stress, improving balance and strengthening muscles and joints, and it significantly lowers the risk of falls.

They meet by the war memorial in Alexandra Park at 9:30 am. There is no need to book, just turn up with £5 in cash on the day.

UNSAFE: The Carceral Roots of the Anti-Trans Backlash book launch & panel

Join Trans Pride Hastings and Women’s Voice for the launch of Lamble’s first book, Unsafe: The Carceral Roots of the Anti-Trans Backlash at Amici Studio in Hastings.

The book examines how fears about cis women’s safety have been used to restrict trans people’s rights. Lamble draws on feminist and queer traditions, alongside their experience of organising against prisons and policing to explore safety through collective care and transformative justice.

Lamble is a community organiser and professor of criminology and queer theory at Birkbeck, University of London. Joining them on the panel are Janey Starling and Victoria Oldman.

Janey is a feminist writer and co-director of gender justice organisation, Level Up and leads a national campaign to end the imprisonment of pregnant women. Victoria is the co-founder and director of Trans Pride Hastings and works as an artist and TNBI educator.

The event runs from 6 pm to 8:30 pm and standard tickets are £5.

A £3 solidarity rate is available for people on a low income or facing financial barriers. Students and people who are underemployed can also book at this rate. If you are able to contribute more, a £10 Pay It Forward ticket helps fund subsidised places. Copies of the book will be available for sale.

WONKY WARRIOR YOGA

Full Moon Sound Bath with Laura Solomons & Nancy Yeung

Laura Solomons and Nancy Yeung lead a sound bath at The Wellington Centre inspired by the full moon in Gemini. The focus is on self-expression and letting go.

The session combines breathwork with the sounds of Himalayan and crystal singing bowls and Water Buffalo drums. You will also use oracle cards for reflection and take part in a full moon ritual.

Mats and blankets are provided along with bolsters and blocks. Bring warm socks and an extra blanket or pillow if want to get a bit more cosy. An eye mask is optional.

The session runs from 6:30 pm to 7:45 pm and is £24.  Doors open at 6:20 pm and close when the session starts.

The organisers advise that the session is unsuitable during the first trimester of pregnancy or for anyone with severe epilepsy, a pacemaker or implanted electronic device, or recent brain surgery.

The Natural Medicine Tool Kit – Winter Immunity Edition

Lior Wellness Studio is opening up the natural medicine cupboard with this 3hr workshop led by naturopathic nutritional therapist, Chloe Durrant and Lior founder Emily Jurriaanse Noifeld.

You will look at homeopathic remedies commonly used through the colder months and everyday herbs used in naturopathic practice for seasonal ailments.

There is also a bit on naturopathic nutrition, with recipes focused on supporting immune health over winter. The hands-on part includes making your own herbal tea. The idea is to leave with a natural medicine toolkit you can refer back to at home, for yourself and for your family.

The workshop runs from 10 am - 1 pm and is £95.

Every Monday from 6:30 pm, the Hastings and St Leonard's Board Games Night takes over the White Rock Hotel on the seafront, with players setting up in the Conference Room or just to the left of reception.

PIZZA & PLAYS: Elijah W Harris

A play about Hastings history and lore, followed by pizza and a Hidden Beach after party? Ooof - count us right in.

Spun Glass Theatre and Hastings Museum & Art Gallery have teamed up for Pizza & Plays, a new series bringing Hastings history to the stage at Stade Hall. Three writers have been given free rein to dig into the town’s folklore, then turn whatever grabs them into a brand-new short play. Each one gets just five days of rehearsal before it’s performed live.

This final night puts Hastings writer Elijah W Harris at centre stage. He has written predominantly for screen, with his work often exploring queer love and the trans experience.

Doors open at 6 pm, with Elijah's play starting at 7 pm. Pizza is served afterwards, kindly provided by Sustenance with Duke Harper Pizza. Then Remi Vibesman of Hidden Beach hosts the post-show party from 8 pm - 10 pm.

Tickets are pay what you can at £5, £10 or £15, and include the play plus entry to the party. Pizza is available to buy separately.

The Crown Knitters

Tuesday mornings at The Crown belong to the Crown Knitters - a free and friendly weekly session of knitting and crochet in Hastings Old Town.

Everything the group makes gets sold to raise money for local causes, with the RNLI and the Hastings Winkle Club among the beneficiaries. They're big on a theme, too. Pirate pieces for Pirate Weekend, green ones for Jack in the Green - if the town is celebrating it, someone's knitting it.

There is no need to book, just turn up at 10 am in the Snug with your project or a bit of yarn, whatever your skill level.
